Rehand a Hoppe multipoint lock: remove the mishandling device sticker if new, pry off the black plastic tab, swivel the device to the correct direction, then use pliers to grip and rotate the spring latch to match. Lock is now ready for the opposite handing.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Understand What Needs to Change
- To rehand a Hoppe multipoint lock, both the mishandling device and the spring latch must be reversed.
- You will need a pair of pliers and, if the lock is brand new, a way to peel off the protective sticker.
2. Prepare a New Lock
- If the lock is brand new, peel the sticker off the mishandling device first so it can move freely.
- Skip this step if the lock has already been installed before.
3. Release the Mishandling Device
- Pry off the small black plastic tab on the mishandling device.
- The device should pop out as the tab releases.
4. Reverse the Mishandling Device
- Grip the mishandling device and gently pull it up out of the lock body.
- Swivel it 180 degrees to the new orientation and press it back into place.
5. Reverse the Spring Latch
- Use the pliers to grip the angled tip of the spring latch firmly.
- Swivel the latch until the angled face points the same direction as the new mishandling device orientation.
- Release the latch and confirm it springs back smoothly — the lock is now rehanded and ready to install.
