INSTALLATION OF REPLACEMENT HANDLE: READ ALL NOTES BEFORE ATTEMPTING
* There are several ways to do this, I chose what would be easiest and fastest.
1. Remove handle set and mortise lock from door edge.
* Mark 1/8" above existing thumb latch hole
* Mark 1/8" above bottom screw hole
* Mark 3-15/16" above bottom screw hole mark
* Replacement handle set needs to be a minimum 1/8" higher to cover top screw hole
2. Drill thumb latch hole, use 1/4" diameter metal bit to remove brass rivet
3. Drill thumb latch mark, with 1/2" Paddle bit
* The 1/2" hole is larger than needed and will be covered by replacement handle.
4. Drill 1/2" hole 1/8" above bottom screw hole.
5. Drill additional Screw hole 3-15/16" above lower screw hole mark
* 1/2" hole will allow stud post to move freely.
* Measure screw hole from door edge, top and bottom, to insure proper hole placement.
6. Remove square mortise lock stops at top and bottom of hole, with 1/2" paddle bit.
* The old mortise lock had a tapered base, the new is square
7. Trial fit Mortise lock in cutout - Should fit flush with door panel
* Mortise lock needs to move freely in hole and be a minimum 1/8" higher the previous lock.
8. Install Mortise lock - Do not screw into place
9. Install Thumb Latch
10. Install handle set, interior and exterior, snug screws, do not tighten, leave screws loose.
* If existing holes are not covered, move plate and mortise lock up, as needed.
11. Test the functionality of lock by moving thumb latch up and down.
12. Install 2 screws into the mortise lock to secure in place, do not over tighten.
13. Tighten all screws, check latch and mortise lock are working properly.
* Strike plate on door jamb will need to be moved.
** IF Keyed Handleset, drill 1/8" above round hole in exterior cladding using 1/2" bit
