How to Remove a Doorknob With No Visible Screws

Many doorknobs and door handles have visible mounting screws on the trim plate. When no screws are visible, they are usually concealed behind a removable knob and decorative trim plate.

  1. Look for a small release slot or latch near the base of the knob or handle. It is commonly located on the interior side of the door.
  2. Press the release latch with a small flathead screwdriver or similar tool while gently pulling the knob away from the door.
  3. Locate the small slot along the edge of the decorative trim plate. Insert the tip of a flathead screwdriver and carefully pry the plate away from the door.
  4. Remove the mounting screws exposed behind the trim plate.
  5. Unscrew the latch faceplate from the edge of the door and remove the remaining doorknob components.

Work carefully when removing the trim plate to avoid scratching the door or damaging the finish. Keep the mounting screws and other small parts together if the doorknob will be reinstalled.
