Rehand a Hoppe HLS9000 multipoint lock by reversing both the latch and the mishandling device: use pliers to grip the latch, pull and twist to the new orientation, then change the mishandling device direction the same way (pull out and rotate). Press both back into place.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Gather the Tool You Need

  • Rehanding lets you use the same Hoppe HLS9000 multipoint lock on a door of the opposite swing.
  • The only tool required is a pair of pliers.
  • Both the latch and the mishandling device must be reversed for the lock to work on the new door.

2. Reverse the Latch

  • Grip the angled tip of the latch firmly with the pliers.
  • Pull the latch straight out, rotate it 180 degrees so the angled face points the opposite direction, and release.
  • Press the latch back in to confirm it has seated correctly.

3. Reverse the Mishandling Device

  • Locate the small mishandling device on the lock face.
  • Using the pliers, pull it out and rotate it to match the new latch orientation.
  • Press it back in until it seats — the lock is now rehanded for the opposite swing.

4. Rehand a Lock That Is Already Installed

  • The same process works on a multipoint lock still installed in the door.
  • Use the pliers to grip the latch, pull out, twist to the new orientation, and let it lock back in.
  • Repeat on the mishandling device — pull out, twist to the correct orientation, and press back in to finish.
