• Score the painted seam where the sill cover meets the window sill using a sharp razor knife.
• Run the blade along the joint on the inside, and along the outside as well, so the paint releases cleanly when the stop comes off.

2. Remove the Handle, Cover, and Bottom Stop

• Open the window so you can access the stop and the operator hardware.
• Loosen the small set screw on the underside of the operator handle and pull the handle off.
• Carefully pop off the operator cover.
• Slip a pry bar under the bottom stop and gently lift it away from the sill — it should release fairly easily once the paint is scored.
• The stop is held by finishing nails, so work slowly to avoid splitting the wood.

3. Pull the Nails and Detach the Operator Arm

• With the stop removed, the operator is now exposed.
• Pull the old finishing nails out of the window jamb using pliers or wire cutters — the stop will not seat correctly if you try to fit it back onto the existing nails.
• Unscrew the operator arm from the window sash.

4. Swap in the New Operator

• Unscrew the old operator from the sill.
• Set the new operator into the same position, lining up its mounting holes with the holes in the sill and the arm hole on the sash.
• Drive the screws to secure the operator to the sill, then reattach the arm to the sash.
• Crank the window open and closed to confirm it operates smoothly — you may need to adjust the arm slightly so the sash closes tight.

5. Reinstall the Stop, Cover, and Handle

• Set the bottom stop back into place; if needed, use a block of wood and a light tap from a hammer to seat it without marring the finish.
• Snap the operator cover back on and thread the operator handle in place, tightening the set screw.
• Test the window once more to confirm everything works correctly.
• Reinstall the screen and your Pella casement window is ready for use.
