Tools You'll Need
- Phillips screwdriver
- Tri-wing screwdriver
- Construction key
- 8 mm Allen wrench
Step-by-Step Instructions
1 Remove the Lock Assembly From the Door
Remove the full multipoint lock assembly from the door and place it on a clean, flat surface so you can access the lock case and the upper and lower extension assemblies.
2 Disconnect the Upper Assembly
Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw that attaches the upper assembly to the lock case. Keep the screw and the upper extension nearby for reassembly.
3 Disconnect the Lower Assembly
The lower assembly is held in place with tri-wing screws. Use a tri-wing screwdriver to remove the two screws and lift the faceplate off. Apply moderate pressure while removing these screws to avoid stripping the heads.
4 Prepare the New Hoppe Lock Case
With the lock separated into three pieces, take the new lock case. Before attaching the extensions, fully extend the deadbolt to make alignment easier. Insert the 8 mm Allen wrench into the square spindle hole and twist it as if pulling the handle down.
5 Engage the Mishandling Device
Locate the small pin between the latch and the deadbolt — this is the mishandling device. Press the pin, then twist the spindle in the opposite direction with the Allen wrench. This allows the additional locking points to engage so the deadbolt can be extended with the construction key.
6 Attach the Lower Assembly
Line up the lower extension's deadbolt slot with the deadbolt on the lock case. The key is making sure the lower assembly latch notch catches the tabs on the lock case. Wiggle the lower assembly while applying downward pressure until it clicks into place, then reinstall the two tri-wing screws.
7 Attach the Upper Assembly
Repeat the same alignment process for the upper assembly. Make sure the lock body tabs line up with the notch in the upper extension so the assembly connects correctly. Wiggle it into place if needed, then reinstall the Phillips screw to secure it.
8 Test the Lock Before Reinstalling It
Before putting the lock assembly back in the door, test the full operation. Use the construction key to retract the deadbolt, then use the Allen wrench to retract the additional locking points — this puts the lock into the open position.
Next, press the mishandling device and confirm you can pull the lever up to re-engage the additional locking points. With the locking points engaged, use the construction key again to test the deadbolt. If everything moves correctly, the lock body has been replaced successfully.
