How To Re-Hand a Ferco 528 Multipoint Lock Replacement!

Rehand a Ferco 528 Atrium multipoint lock gearbox using just a Phillips screwdriver: unscrew the spring latch, flip it so the bevel faces the door frame, and re-fasten so the latch will depress and let the door close.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Identify the Lock and Gather a Screwdriver

  • This guide covers rehanding a Ferco 528 Atrium multipoint lock gearbox.
  • The only tool you need is a Phillips screwdriver.
  • Lay the lock flat on a sturdy work surface so the spring latch is easy to access.

2. Understand How the Bevel Sets the Handing

  • The bevel is the angled (slanted) side of a spring latch or locking rod that controls how the lock interacts with the door frame.
  • The beveled side of the latch must face the door frame — otherwise the latch will not depress when the door closes and the door cannot latch shut.
  • Rehanding simply means flipping the latch so the bevel faces the new strike direction.

3. Unscrew the Spring Latch

  • Locate the screw on the faceplate that holds the spring latch in place.
  • Use the Phillips screwdriver to back the screw out completely.
  • Lift the spring latch free of the gearbox.

4. Flip the Latch and Reinstall

  • Rotate the spring latch so the bevel now faces the opposite direction.
  • Set the latch back into its slot in the gearbox.
  • Drive the screw back in to fasten the latch securely.
  • Press the latch in and out by hand to confirm it springs back smoothly before installing the lock on the door.
