Parting Stop

The wood strip fastened to the top head jamb of a double hung window, which protrudes down. The parting stop is positioned to the inside of the top sash.

Plate Glass

Type of glass which is designed to break in large shards (pieces).

Plow

The channels mortised (cut) into the side of a window sash and designed to accept the window's balance system (jambliners, rope and pulleys, etc.).

Plumb

Exactly vertical or true. When a vertical section of a door or window is level, it is said to be plumb.
