Kerf
The gut or groove manufactured in a door frame, window frame or sash, which houses weather stripping. The kerf normally measures 3/8" deep by 1/8" wide (saw blade width).
King Stud
For rough-in frame work; the 2x4 located outside of the cripple stud which is positioned vertically between the top and bottom plates. King studs are used for support for window and door openings.
Krypton Gas
An odorless, colorless, tasteless, non-toxic gas, found in our atmosphere, that is about 12 times denser than air. It is used to replace the air in insulated glass units when a higher R-value is desired. The heavier-than-air gas reduces the convection of heat through the glass surfaces. (also helps with noise reduction)
