To check the Lock Adjustment
1. Open the door and operate the lock from inside with the thumb turn - it should move smoothly
2. Close the door and lock - Does the thumb latch still work smoothly ? If Not, the lock or strike may need adjustment
Pre-Reach Out Locks
The older Andersen locks had the adjustment in the face of the lock. When the screw is turned it would move the latch in or out for better adjustment
If the lock thumb latch is hard to turn - extend the latch, if the door has to much movement - retract
Turn clockwise to retract latch
Turn counter-clockwise to extend
Reach Out Locks
Same idea as above, except Andersen moved the adjustment to the Strike plate on door jamb
Some doors may have adjustment on Lock and strike.
