The French company G-U  makes a variety of multi-point locks with a large selection of styles that offer Roller, Tongue, Shootbolt, Hook, and Latch Bolt versions of locking devices. G-U offers the Europa Series with the key cylinder below the handle and the New Breed with the cylinder above the handle. The older style lock designs have been discontinued and must be replaced with the newer style. One problem is the old style and new style had different lock bodies  and are not interchangeable: Also the position of the locking devices have changed. When replacing the old style with the new it may be necessary to relocate the strike plates on the door frame.
Note: This Article is featuring the old style Europa Series Multipoint locks, with cylinder below handle.

Although the images look similar the actual positions of the latch and deadbolt have changed, this might require relocating the latch and deadbolt strike plate on some doors.

On the Tripact (tongue version) the tongue is larger on the old style and is located in different positions than the new version;  Also, G-U did custom multipoint locks for Atrium, Pella  and other companies, these have been discontinued and are not available. The only replacement is the new style with the tongues in different positions. The standard handle height – measured from center of handle to bottom of faceplate is 889mm (35”)  This measurement might vary.  Note: We will offer options when available.

The above pictures are not to scale: A= Lock body,  X= Backset

The roller version  has similar issues, the rollers are not in the same postion. When measuring the existing lock determine which version you have and where the  rollers or other locking devices are located in relation to the handle psition.

The lock bodies on the old style and new are not the same size, therefore they can not be interchanged. Generally the Mortise lock body had a number stamped in the metal 45/92, 50/92, etc. The first number was the backset, the second was the spacing for the handle  and cylinder. Thus, a 45/92 was a 45mm (1-3/4 inch ) backset and  92mm ( 3-5/8 inch) spacing from center of handle to center of thumb turn or keyed cylinder. This information is helpful in determining a replacement lock.

Before ordering and changing the existing multipoint lock be sure and understand what is needed to change from one lock to another. Some carpentry skills and a mechanical aptitude is helpful.  If you don't understand this information it might be better to hire a carpenter, locksmith or someone that does.
