- Jack Stud (Cripple Stud)
- For rough-in frame work; the 2x4 (stud) which is positioned (vertically) underneath the header (header support) and runs down to the bottom plate (2x4). Cripples are also used to fill in the gaps between the top plate and the header and the sill plate and bottom plate.
- Jamb
- The master frame of a door. The jamb width of a door is made up of the thickness of the interior wall (drywall, etc.), wall frame work, insulation board, plywood, and siding.
- Jamb Extension
- Strips of wood nailed (added) to the window and door jamb to match the jamb width of the wall. Also referred to as extension jambs.
- Jamb Liners
- The tracks positioned along the jamb (sides) of a double hung window. The sashes of the double hung operate on the jamb liners. Also referred to as weatherstrip or balancers.
