Rekeying CES Euro / Profile Cylinders

Rekeying CES to a Schlage key is not simple. The Schlage pins are about 15 thousands to long and the spacing on the key is slightly off on the firstcut, closest to the bow of the key blank. It appears, using 5 thousands pin kit, the standard pinnumber is one number high. If a Schlage calls for a # 6 pin= .255, it will use the next one done or a .240 bottom pin.I have not tried master keying at this time. Also because the spacing is slightly off on the first pin you will need to reduce that pin by5 thousands. The first pin does not hit the bottom of the valley and rides

The Schalge key blank is about1/32” shorter than the CES. Theduplicate keys cut on Schlage SC-1 blanks work OK, I did notice that thekey needs to be pushed all the way in or sometimes the tail piece / cam wouldnot engage.

Thesecond option is to purchase a CES keying kit. # 2036576. The small kit has enough pins, drivers andsprings to rekey 10 locks and comes with a key gauge.

Schlage Key Number and Reqired Bottom Pins used.

Schlage Bottom

Key # 2-5 Pin 1stPin

1 160 155

2 180 175

3 195 190

4 210 205

5 225 220

6 240 235

7 255 250

8 270 265

9 285 280

Steps to rekey CES cylinder.

  1. Remove plastic cap; the cap has small barbs on both sides that lock into cylinder housing. The cap can be re-used if removed without damage. I found the best way to remove is squeeze the sides in and use a thin shim on both sides, lift cap.
  2. Remove springs – These are longer than normal
  3. Remove all driver and bottom pins. Save driver / top pins
  4. Decode Schlage key and load new pins into cylinder holes – remember the first slot is smaller.
  5. Re-load the driver pins, then springs.
  6. Hold springs down with finger and try key.
  7. Snap plastic cap on after removing key; take care not to bend springs.

Note: I have not tried rekeying to CES key, I assume thepins are the same.

If having trouble keying, I would suggest pinning onecylinder at a time and continue to the next when it works.
