Peachtree IPD Lock - Change Handing

Changing the handing on an IPD lock is relatively simple.

Three things must change

    Before Changing the Lock Handing
  1. The latch has to be reversed
    1. Fully Extend Latchbolt on Mortise Lock

      Prepare to remove latch.

      Fully extend latch

      Remove latch

      Latch Reversed

      Retract Latch

      Locke Rehanded

    2. The latch has to be fully extended, may require the square handle hole be operated or insert a flat screw driver into slot and extend.
    3. The latch will slide off and the bevel reversed
    4. You may have to invert the lock downward to slide back on, sometimes the latch does not stick out all the way, but gravity works in your favor.
  2. The Black plastic covers need to be removed and the arms changed from one side to the other.
    1. Remove Plastic Cover from Mortise Lock

      Remove

      Flip Lock Over

Remove other plastic cover from Peachtree IPD lock.

Remove other arm from peachtree lock

      Place arm from other side

Replace lock cover and hold with tape.

      Flip the lock over

      Install Remaining Arm

      Replace lock cover an tape

    2. The arms have different shapes. The longer arm goes to the inside of the house – this enables a panic release function that allows one to exit by just turning the inside handle
    3. The shorter arm goes to the outside. This maintains the door in a locked position.
    4. If the arms are wrong – you can not get out, anyone can get in!
  3. The plastic covers need a piece of tape over them to secure in place.
    1. Use a piece of tape to hold the plastic cover in place. This may prevent the cover from falling off and the arm coming loose.

Note: Check the function of the lock before installing into your door. This might save you the trouble of redoing it later.
Use a flat edge screw driver to extended and retract latch.
Use the handle to check operation of handles and the panic release from inside.
